CPU Clock speed dropping

The moment I open a game, the clock speed just drops to base clock, despite it being completely capable of clocking faster and providing much more fps at the same conditions as before. It did work before.

I'm thinking maybe its the graphics card using up all the power output available, but then I never changed anything.

Does your Mac meet or exceed the "Recommended System Requirements" for the game? Just meeting the "Minimum" requirements won't give you a good experience. Most games default to video settings that should work on your hardware, but sometimes you may still need to lower the video settings (turn off anti-aliasing, shadows, etc.) and possibly disable "Vsync" within the game.

Make sure you quit all other apps as they can slow down your Mac when gaming. Also make sure you are not running any anti-virus apps, cleaning apps, or third party security software as these types of apps are not needed on a Mac and usually cause more problems than they solve plus they greatly impact system performance.

An Intel GPU is not usually good for gaming.

I say the GPU is fine for a small roblox game.

Roblox doesn't have very advanced graphics settings, its just a slider. I'm not sure if Vsync is on or not, as for other apps, its just the same as before, when the CPU still clocked faster than base clock while I have a game open.

One thing, it clocks faster when I turn DOWN the graphics settings. But why? Isn't it supposed to work harder when the graphics settings are increased? It also clocks slightly faster when I'm not using my external monitor.

As long as it meets or exceeds the Recommended System Requirements. Don't assume any game or app is "simple" or capable of running with limited resources. Some games with seemingly simple graphics can require a powerful GPU. For example Intel GPUs are not known for doing very well with games. You seldom see an Intel GPU mentions in any system requirements for most games. This doesn't mean a game won't run, but most likely the experience will be subpar.

How are you determining this?

Even so, there can be times when what seems logical is not the case. CPU & GPU utilizations can have different bottlenecks. Plus if the CPU/GPU is attempting to deal with settings beyond the system's capabilities you are probably causing the Mac to heat up possibly to the point where the CPU is being throttled so the system can cool down to a safe temp. Plus an external monitor means you are feeding two displays (even if the game is only shown on one). I've never paid attention to these small details on a Mac so I don't know how a Mac behaves here in all of the possible situations.

Again the important factor here is whether the game (or any app for that matter) meets or exceeds the Recommended System Requirements. If a game (or app) does not meet or exceed these Recommended requirements, then you are usually going to have a poor experience. There is a reason that there are "Recommended" requirements.
