Converting Mac file format to Excel file format

I have sometimes wanted to upload a song, or a chart , or ____.to my Facebook Group but , despite repeated efforts, I have never succeeded . Such files are always rejected. However, a few days ago,

I tried the Apple conversion system: Click on chart>File>Export to Excel>Next>Documents>Export. That worked the the first time I tried it, but it doesn't work anymore , and I am constantly being deluged by request from Microsoft to give them my Keychain password.

I don't know anything about keychain passwords, and the woman at Apple I talked to today said that I would have to pay Microsoft $70.00 if I wanted to convert any more documents.

I guess the only real question for me is whether there is now ANY way for Apple files to be uploaded to Facebook. without having to sign up with Microsoft. The rest is just background information. Oh, the charts are charts I have made with Numbers. (There is, of course, another name for charts, but I just can't think of it it the moment)

Before getting all nasty, the problem you posted has never once been mentioned by a single other person in the over 10 years I have been a part of this forum. New problems come up from time to time so I don't usually start out acting like I know everything but, seriously, it was obvious this was something you were doing but not explaining completely in your first post. Your latest post now says you get the requests from Microsoft after clicking on the xlsx file that Numbers exported. That is a critically important piece of information you left out of your original post. Numbers correctly exported the file, thus the presence of the file you were clicking on. As far as Numbers and exporting goes, this problem is solved. Numbers correctly exported the file.

As soon as you click on that xlsx file, you get into Microsoft territory. It appears you downloaded/installed Excel (Office) and have not actually bought or activated it. You clicked on a file that opens in Microsoft Office so Microsoft is assuming you want to get started using Microsoft Office. It is up to you if you want to do what it says to get started and pony up the money for a subscription to Office 365 (not buying it, just renting).

If you delete the Office app you downloaded from the App Store the requests from Microsoft should stop. I do not know what you downloaded exactly so I cannot tell you what exactly to delete. If you right click on the xlsx file and click on "Open With" it should tell you the default program it is going to use to open it. That would be the one to delete.

You can download and install LibreOffice instead. It is pretty much like Microsoft Office but is free.

With all that said, why do you need to open the file in Excel to post it to Facebook?

To the best of my knowledge Microsoft has absolutely nothing to do with Apple Numbers or exporting from Numbers to Excel, it is free to export to Excel, and you can export as many documents as you want for free.

I believe the free version of Excel on the App Store allows you to view Excel files but nothing else. I do not have it. Regardless, this is unrelated to Numbers or exporting from Numbers to Excel. You do not need Excel to export from Numbers to Excel format.

What happens when you go through the process of "File>Export to Excel>Next>Documents>Export"? It should create an Excel file in your documents folder. At what point in your process of going from Numbers to Facebook do you get deluged with requests from Microsoft?

LibreOffice is a free suite of apps like Microsoft Office. You can download and install it from the web and then you can open and edit the Excel files (and save your changes in Excel format).

Facebook is an independent company, as are Microsoft and Apple. They are three independent companies, each independent from the other. It makes no sense that you have to sign up with Microsoft to upload an "Apple" file to Facebook. You are having problems uploading files to Facebook but your conclusion that you have to sign up with Microsoft to do it is sketchy.

Perhaps Google (or DuckDuckGo or Bing) can be of assistance. If you are having problems uploading files to Facebook, chances are someone else has had a similar problem or someone has outlined the steps to do it. There appear to be quite a few answers when I search.

Back to Numbers, what is the serious deficiency you spoke of to the six Apple technicians? We here can't fix any bugs because we are not Apple, we are users like yourself, but we can often come up with workarounds or help explain how to do things in Numbers.

The problem you thought you had with Numbers has been solved. Numbers is exporting the file to Excel format. There is no problem with Numbers. The expertise on this forum is on the use of Apple Numbers, not uploading files to Facebook or getting Microsoft to shut up. You are asking your question in the wrong place. The part of your problem that related to Numbers has been solved.

If the problem of uploading files to Facebook or the problem of Microsoft popups are "very common" there must be a multitude of people posting of them elsewhere and a multitude of answers (or sympathy). That is why I suggested searching the Internet. If you are not getting the help you want here, search the Internet. You can be disappointed all you want, just like you might be disappointed if you called a plumbing company to ask how come your electric wiring has problems and they tell you "you are asking in the wrong place" but that is all on you.

Sorry you are disappointed with the free help that

  1. Solved your problem with "converting Mac File format to Excel File format" by showing that Numbers was in fact exporting to Excel.
  2. Suggested how to get the Microsoft popups to go away, but you don't seem to have tried doing so.
  3. Suggested the use of LibreOffice to open your Excel files, but you don't seem to have downloaded or installed it.
  4. Tried to point you in a correct direction regarding your problem of uploading to Facebook.

To me, your comments indicate that you are really not knowledgable about the situation; however, let me respond where I can. When did the harassment/notices/inquiries begin? The day after I successfully uploaded a chart to a Facebook site using the method I have described. When are they sent? (1) whenever I click on one of the XlSX files I made using the method I have described. (2) When I try to use that method (3.)When I open the chart I created with that method. 4, 5 and 6: Oh I can’t remember. It just seems that they are after me whenever I have any kind of contact with their product. ALERT. I just tested that last statement by clicking on the miniature chart I have on my desktop. As soon as I did, the notice I will post appeared on my screen. It’s creepy. There is another ad, but it’s too large to post here. It starts with “Get started with Microsoft 365”

Oh. I can’t post that nuisance after all, because it has a “password,” possibly nine. I’ll just type what it says.

Microsoft Excel wants to use your confidential

Information stored in “Microsoft identity

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX”

In your keychain.

To allow this, enter the “login” keychain password

In your keychain.

THEY NEVER STOP, and it’s difficult to remove their postings from my screen

Now, that is a reasonable question. I answered it in my opening statement. Here it is again. "I guess the only real question for me is whether there is now ANY way for Apple files to be uploaded to Facebook. without having to sign up with Microsoft." If your answer is yes, please elucidate. I have been unable to upload any music or charts (I still can't remember the more commonly used word) with my Mac alone. In fact, I finally gave up on music. I now just send YouTube videos. As to charts, I never really cared much about them before ,but I'm now preparing some pretty cool ones, if I do say so myself. Unfortunately, being extremely inexperienced, it takes me ten times longer to prepare something than someone who has years of experience. I spent hours this morning talking to SIX Apple technician about a serious deficiency of Numbers.. Five of them couldn't help ,but the sixth one, finally puzzled out the solution. What bothered me, though, was that no one seemed to be interested in making that solution better known. I even called back, trying to get them to appreciate the importance of that man's "discovery," but it did no good. What a pity. At least this site has records that can be explored, not as productively as in the past but oftentimes still helpful. Google keeps becoming more valuable by the day. I've even seen my words there. Honest.
