Gif saving as image IOS 14.6

Gif being saved from safari into photo album is saving as image.

this issue seems to be occurring again

i am running iPhone 11 with IOS 14.6

Welcome to the Apple Community, where some of us do our best to help each other.


.gif is an image file format.

It is similar to .jpg or .jpeg, .bmp, and .png, but .gif is usually a smaller file size than .jpeg.

It seems you can import .gif images ok into iPhone in Messages and in Pages., and even animated .gifs into Photos.


It is possible you are not seeing the .gif displayed at the end of the filename (called a file extension).


Apple Support have an article online:

It says (eg.) you can save a .GIF received in messages to Photos

Send and save GIFs on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
