Voice message from my iPhone 6s to another cell phone.

I am trying to send a voice message to my b/f. He sends me one a lot but he does not have an iPhone. His message cones in my text app but when I click on it goes out on another page? On my text it does not have those lines beside where I type my text message. On the left side there is a camera and an A and on right side is an up arrow to send my text. Down below the "keyboard" is a SPACE bar and on right is RETURN. On left of space bar is 123, smiley face and a picture of a microphone. When I hold the microphone down and say something it types it in chat for me. This is not what I want. I want to send an audio message so he can hear my voice.
