What does the blue ring around a contacts picture mean? Not the transparent location ring but the solid ring around a picture, sometimes it’s blue others it’s Black or grayish

Hey there, and welcome to Apple Support Communities, TonyR77!

We see that you have a question about something that you're seeing on your iPhone. We'll be happy to see how we can help.

To get started, we have some questions to better understand what's going on.

•Which app are you seeing this in?

•Which iPhone and iOS version are you using?

•When did you first notice this happening?

We look forward to hearing back from you.

Cheers.

Thanks for that info, TonyR77.

From what we've been able to gather, those colored circles likely indicate that the contact's location cannot be accurately determined. This is similar to the transparent circle showing an estimation.

This page in the iCloud User Guide page has some information: Find the location of your friends on iCloud.com

"On the map, your friends are represented by orange dots with their initials or profile pictures. Your location appears as a blue dot. The shadows around the dots indicate the location’s accuracy (the smaller the shadow the better)."

We hope this helps.

Cheers.
