No automatic connection between Bluetooth headset and Apple TV

This is stupid and not what Bluetooth was designed for, but I have to manually “connect” my Sony Bluetooth headset every time I’m using them even if it is paired. Common Apple, this is sooooo basic! How come you can make it automatically connect once I turn headset on? I suppose it only works properly with AirPods? Any cues
