IOS UPDATE VIA ITUNES "ERROR 4000" SOLVED

Hi,

Recently I had to update my iPhone XR to iOS 14.6 from 14.3 and I downloaded the software in my iTunes despite of my poor network, and when started to update my phone by connecting to iTunes it extracted the software and then did a backup but when the update started an error popped saying it could not update the iPhone error 4000. I tried plugging in different ports of my computer but no luck, Then I contacted the apple support even their suggestions didn't work they also connected me to an higher officer and we checked for,

  1. outdated iTunes
  2. any antivirus protections(which I never had, though tried updating with turning windows defender and firewall settings OFF)
  3. asked me to try with a different cable or a try in a another system(both of which I didn't have and so didn't try)
  4. at last the support agent asked me to update through recovery mode.

Before trying the last option I had a bit of hesitation that why should I risk trying it.

Then I read a few discussions and found TURNING OFF THE PASSCODE can help.

and which I tried to my surprise it worked. it took less than 15mins to update.

So just thought of sharing this experience where it could be useful for someone facing ERROR4000

my recommendation,

  1. update your iTunes to current version.
  2. check using the different usb ports of your computer and may be even a different charging cable.
  3. turn off any antivirus. (keeping ON the windows defender is fine it worked for me)
  4. and at last it is mandatory(I guess) to turn off the passcode.
