Why won't Apple TV + autoplay next episode?

Device: new 2021 4k apple tv

App: apple tv +

Problem: App won't automatically play next episode.

Makes me watch the credits at the end of an episode, then forces me back to the main menu. The only pop up option during the end credits is "more from apple tv +".

Why is this broken? How do I fix this!?

This question has been asked multiple times with no real answer. Obviously apple tv app is having a software issue that doesn't allow auto play. It's been over a year from what I read in other forums on this exact issue. This problem is a bit ridiculous because it's the most basic of features expected of a streaming app. What's the point of watching any shows with multiple episode if you can only watch 1, then have to manually go back & choose the next episode?

If this isn't fixed, I'm definitely not wasting my money on Apple TV + when my free subscription is over. Now I'm not even sure why I bought the new 4k apple tv at all.

Unfortunately discovered this bug after purchasing content. Apple is supposed to be the most user friendly “it just works” interface. Simply put this doesn’t work, and reflects poorly on their streaming service by association.

why autoplay hasn’t been corrected in a world of binge watching is just silly. The experience just causes frustration with no immersion.

Had the exact same query... ended up on Reddit finding out others are having the same issue. I made a thread:

The only thing preventing me from making the switch to tv+...

Discussion

The ability to skip intros, skip recap, and play next or auto play next episode. Been wanting this for a couple of years now. Honestly I've become really spoiled by the features other streaming apps provide which tv+ sorely lacks.

For reference, I'm deep in the Apple ecosystem and it's my preferred OS for anything, I have the new ATV4K 2021, and it's a huge pain in the *** when watching a series in iTunes or in the tv+ app.

Anyone else have this problem? Any workarounds?

I agree with you in sentiment. The only thing we disagree on is intentionality. I still believe that Apple is intentionally providing this somewhat crippled version of a streaming service, because it’s financially beneficial for them to do so. So it’s not an issue of incompetence; it’s one of intentional neglect, as well as blatant dishonesty in their refusing to come clean about it.

However, if enough people would stop spending money on the Apple streaming products or services, it might force them to correct this injustice against the loyal Apple consumers, whom they have short-changed with their pitiful excuse for a streaming platform.

Update:

(All the shows I'm trying to watch are apple tv + content.)

Apparently it's not every show that's not autoplaying next episode.

With 'Tiny Worlds' autoplay doesn't work.

Tried another random show, I think Snoopy, something with short episodes & autoplay worked.

Maybe it's anything in "up next" that won't autoplay next episode.

Maybe it's just random shows that do not work with autoplay.

Still troubleshooting & I will update again soon.

Currently trying to watch Silicon Valley while working from home after just purchasing the entire series, and it is extremely frustrating to constantly have to exit the episode when credits roll just to swipe right and click play for every new episode. Apple has this very strange tendency to claim their customers have a 99% satisfaction rate because everything “just works” but then they have all these annoying little issues that they never care to solve for their users until years later. Clearly they aren’t reading these posts and the team in charge of streaming on Apple TV functionality is completely useless since “auto play” is literally a basic feature of every streaming service now and has been for years. This is especially frustrating for short shows like The Office, and I know they are aware of it because the Apple TV app on iPad and iPhone DOES do auto play next episode. They e literally just ignored that function on the ONLY device dedicated ENTIRELY to consuming films and television shows. Please fire whomever is in charge of this.

Sincerely,

Apple TV Customers

Apple is the most technologically brilliant, innovative company in the world. They do not tolerate “bugs” or “glitches.”

The reason their next episodes won’t automatically play is to purposely make it tedious for customers who want to binge-watch...or to put their favorite show on to play in the background while they are spending time at home.

This frees up AppleTv’s servers and saves them a lot of money! Very smart business model...until people have had enough of it and go elsewhere to stream tv shows.

I still love Apple. But I rarely use their streaming service because of their internal policies to limit the customers access to comfortable streaming. Amazon Prime Video is way better! They let you watch several episodes before asking you if you’re still watching.

So...this was still not resolved? When I Dm'd an apple TV help account they told me how to watch The Office from Watch Next...but then it started to only play a select few...until I would play the next directly from Tv shows - Itunes app so it was as if the Apple TV app knew to continue from there....but then it stared to do it again and then always go back to a certain episode...and now it doesn't automatically play anything anymore.

This seems to be such a silly issue that should've been fixed by now.
