Apple tv closed caption issue

My Apple TV unit works fine with closed captions on all except HBO Max. The remote will not show the closed caption choices when I try to turn it on. It will pause the action but not open. up the CC window. Is this a common issue with HBO Max or just a fluke?

HBO Max App for Apple TV is broken since their latest update, where they introduced their own custom player.

Many reports on the New Siri remote and issues with HBO Max.

Turning on/off subtitles requires pressing pause, swiping down then across to subtitles, pressing again then scrolling to your desired option, pressing yet again then resuming playback. Before, you could swipe down, select your choice, then swipe up again - the standard tvOS way.

You can report your displeasure of the App to HBO Max.
