iMovie Won't Open or Update

I recently was given a MacBook Pro to use for work. It was previously used by a different employee, and had some issues. Apple factory reset it and put a new hard drive in it. I'm trying to open iMovie to edit videos, however it tells me it can't open the app because the version is not compatible with Big Sur. So, I go to update it and it tells me it can't update it because it was purchased under a different user.

I don't even see a way to delete and repurchase it under my user account. Does anyone know how I can get iMovie working?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.12

Hello riversandstreams,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. We understand you're having issues with getting a version of iMovie you can use as the previous version was purchased under another Apple ID. To start, you would need to uninstall iMovie to be able to purchase it under your own Apple ID. To uninstall apps you downloaded from the App Store, use Launchpad: Use Launchpad to view and open apps on Mac

Then, if you're signed in with your own Apple ID, you can purchase and install the iMove version compatible with macOS Big Sur: iMovie

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
