Trade in my Mac

I'm trading in my iMac and erased the hard drive but couldn't reinstall the MacOS, is there any problem with that? I don't want to be charged for this! Thanks for your answer!

I've cleaned off old iMac for trade in but am unable to reinstall macOS is that OK? I'm trading in iMac with OSX El Capitan software deleted now I'm unable to install XOS will apple take it back at full trade in value?
