My mail app hasn’t received any emails since monday

mail so has anyone else have a problem with the mail app on their iphone not working? i can’t even see my mail it’s just constantly says “checking for mail” so i cannot are it at all and that’s been my main email for years now but ever since i got this iphone 6s it just does not work
