Dexcom not working with apple watch 6 series

My dexcom app worked perfectly before but I can not get it to work with my new watch. It always tells me to check the deacon app on my phone.

My work around has been to load and use the Happy Bob app but it's not as smooth as what I was used to with the dexcom feature.

Has anyone been able to get it to work on their 6 series?

apple watch can a series 1 apple watch pair with a se second generation? every time i try to pair i get a notification that i’m not connected to the internet, but i am. my phone is updated to the ios 16.2
