Custom Printing paper Size

Hi Everyone, where do I define and change the paper size list that is shown on the printer configuration page?

As you can see I have no printers installed (I always print to PDF) But I want to define new sizes... For example Architectural E1

I know I can add new "custom sizes" here, but sometimes, for some apps, this feature is grayed out.

Thanks.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.4

Open a random pdf or whatever to use the Print command to open a print window, as though you're going to print the document.

Click on the Paper Size drop-down. At the bottom, click on Manage Custom Sizes. Enter your custom sizes and save with the OK button.

Your custom paper sizes will appear in in the System Prefs > Printers & Scanners > Default paper size drop-down at the bottom of the preferences window.

Be forewarned, depending on the Mac OS you're using, you may have to change the default paper size every time you want to use one of your custom sizes. I found choosing a custom size broke in the last High Sierra upgrade (to v. 10.13.6) and now printing to a custom size sheet yields the dread "Filter failed" error, even with all available driver updates.
