Liquid damage to MacBook Pro

Hi all

I have a 2020 16” 1TB MacBook Pro. Unfortunately I spilt a cup of tea over it and it’s dead. I don’t have the ability to get it to a store to be checked out as I work offshore and will be away for another 4 weeks.

I haven’t backed it up to the time machine for a couple of months but have some stuff I could do with on my desktop.

My stupid question of the day is (tho I think I know the answer) does anything get backed up to the iCloud on your desktop.

Thanks in advance.

Mark

I feel your pain, I once had something similar happen with a new laptop myself.

Regarding your question it really depends on what your iCloud settings are. If you have your documents, photos and video, calendar, safari, etc. linked to your iCloud, you should still have a back up that covers most of your files. Similar for if you have any other cloud services (e.g. Dropbox). If you have all your files on your desktop and download folder then you will unfortunately not be able to access without restoring / fixing your MBP.

Hope things work out!

Liquid Damage

Quote:

If liquid makes its way inside your Apple product, get help from an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store as soon as possible. Liquid damage isn't covered under the Apple product warranty or AppleCare Protection Plans, but you may have rights under consumer law. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar (available only in some countries and regions).
