You cannot.
Click on this link to find out 'How to reset your AirTag' --> https://support.apple.com/HT212251
"An AirTag can be associated with one Apple ID. If you want to use an AirTag that someone else has used, they need to remove the AirTag from their Apple ID first. If the previous user removed the AirTag from their Apple ID but they were out of Bluetooth range of the AirTag, then you need to reset it before you can use it with your devices."
AirTags are so helpful because I have hearing loss and it’s hard to locate items by sound. But I have to keep tiles on anything my family needs to find as well. That’s crazy, especially when they can see the location of all my devices.
This is pretty sad because I thought I could switch from Tile to Apple. I have these on my tv remote, blood pressure machine, etc. I’m not the only one that needs to find these items. What about when I’m not home? My husband would have to logout if his Apple ID and into mine just to find the BP machine. You didn’t review all of the possible use cases. Bad testing before production.
I agree with others that this needs to change. It is guaranteed that many of the items that we want to track are shared within the family --car keys, bags, pets, etc. I also bought these to replace Tiles, and now regret it. This is a feature gap that ranks Tiles better than AirTags.
Exactly...unconscionable that a $3T legendary brand, still goes to the extreme of finding ways to extract extras out of a dedicated customer base, when in this one area, all else who offer it, allow the shared device feature (as Apple already does with thier iPhones, Mac...).

Have you told Apple your thoughts?

I'm sure that's the "official" company line, but we should all know better. The *Apple recommended* "solution" above also says otherwise.
The fact that the Hosts recommended advice doesn't mean Apple reads here for feedback. The Hosts are a small group of very (wonderful) overworked people whose job is to run the forums. Much of that is making sure the terms of use are adhered to. They also do things like recommend posts as a solution if the OP doesn't select one as solved. But, what they don't have time for is compiling suggestions or feedback.
It's naive to think that they don't.
No, it's based on actual conversations with the people in question.

The inverse can also be true, the fact that the hosts recommended advice doesn't mean that Apple doesn't read here for feedback. You're telling me that a forum, hosted under the apple.com domain, and that no one reads it at Apple. That, *is* incredibly naive.

Pandering is annoying.

7. Apple may respond to questions but does not formally provide technical support on the Site.
Oh, but they don't read it. We all know this isn't a place to get support, it's a place to discuss with other users. It's foolish to think Apple doesn't see this and even more foolish to think that they cannot be influenced by user discussions. This back and forth is doing no good. Have your last word.
This is my exact dilemma. We tagged our dog and I’m the only one with the location. I’d love to be able to share this with my wife. Apple let’s get this figured out. If I’m this concerned about tracking my dog, I know families using these to track their child are even more frustrated.
Please allow to share apple AirTags. I got these for my dogs and one for my aging grandpa… being able to share these with my partner, mom, and sister would help us with caring for grandpa and would let my partner and I track our dogs if ever they should get out of the yard if the electric dog fence fails.
You can log into family members account on iCloud.com and use that to locate their AirTags, however I do believe apple should allow us to share AirTags amounts. Family members, what if my kid gets lost!!! God forbids
I agree about sharing it with your family. I'm going to Mexico and will be driving from Cancun to Piste. What if something happens. Let's say I get kidnapped. It's obvious that my phone would be taken away from me because everyone knows you can track a phone. But an AirTag is small and could be concealed on one's person. This would allow my family to make sure I made it to my destination safely. I don't think apple thought this through. The app could allow all parties involved to give consent when signing up for it. Kind of like accept terms and conditions that we all have to do when using anything on line.. Reconsider this Apple. Right now my apples is tasting tart.

... they are NOT intended or even designed to track individuals and should NEVER be used for any sort of "life safety" monitoring,.
That should be repeated several times.
Seriously?? I bought the AirTags to share visibility with my wife now she’s upset only I can find them. Apple please reconsider as our TILEs had that feature, although I’m much happier with the performance of the AirTags overall.
Yes I agree this defo worth a update I don’t always take my phone with the dogs , but my wife does so strange where can not use on a least two phone or even three , how can you go separate ways to find them if only on one phone ?
If your wife isn’t comfortable … why don’t you just carry your phone?
FYI, airtags only work when there is another “cooperating” Apple device nearby to detect the Airtag and transmit it’s location. If you’re biking out away from crowds of iPhones … a typical situation … the Airtags won’t be locatable anyway.
