I have a lot of music on an old iPod. As it is getting older I would like to purchase a music player that plays music downloaded from my MAC. Being an elderly person I have my old-time music and want to keep listening to it. I do not download any current music just want my oldies but goodies. Do you have any recommendations? I do have a more current iPod but prefer to use this as my data iPod not for music.

You might consider a used iPod.
For third party options, the one most commonly mentioned is the SanDisk line of players. Haven't personally used them, but worth checking out.

As you probably know, the third party players do not sync the way an iPod does; you have to bring songs over via Finder.
No I did not know that. I guess that is why the iPod is more expensive. I will try to use the SanDisk as I only use the music when cutting the grass.
