Iphone 11 pro max icloud locked

So I purchased an iPhone 11 pro max from a police auction website propertyroom.com. I have the receipt from the purchase and with the new apple icloud unlock help I thought they would unlock it for me. Apple did not. So now my options are

1. Try and find the original owner who can be a criminal and ask them to remove the lock

2. Sell it for parts and get way less then what I paid at auction

3. Pay a third party company and have them bypass icloud lock which could be a scam

Now none of these options are good but Apple doesn't care if I bought it legally they only care they didn't get money from me directly... what should I do?

Activation Lock is a theft deterrent feature. If there was an easy way to disable it that would defeat its purpose. I have heard of cases similar to yours where a phone was obtained from a police auction and Apple removed Activation Lock. You can try this route→https://al-support.apple.com/#/additional-support

You can also use the Get Support link at the top of this page and try to discuss it with an Apple support person. This works best if you are polite and not aggressive or demanding.

No Apple Store, even if you knew which store the phone was purchased from will give a copy of the original purchase receipt, because you AREN'T the original buyer. If that's what Apple already told you, then it's time to give up. Apple will NEVER contact an owner about a lost or stolen phone. NEVER. EVER.

Time to chalk this up to a lost cause and recycle the phone responsibly.

Sorry.

Your loyalty has nothing to do with this. Of course we understand you didn't steal the phone. But Apple has no responsibility to unlock a phone which was most likely stolen, which you bought at auction and you were informed at purchase you bought "AS IS."

We don't work for Apple, so we can't speak for them. Your ONLY hope is to take it to Apple, with the receipt and hope Apple will help you. But also, you need to understand they may not be willing to help you. That is the ONLY option you have available.

Had you done any research, you'd have easily found Apple takes security very seriously. Apple only unlocks phones for the person who originally bought the phone. True, you bought it at an auction from the police - AS IS, but you are not the original buyer of the phone. You likely bought a stolen iPhone, which found its way to a police organization and the original owner never found where it was held.

The police know very well Apple's policy on unlocking phones. Apple won't even unlock a phone for the Police as again, Apple protects the rights of the original owner.

You can take it to an Apple Store with the receipt from the Police Auction and maybe will be willing to help. But they may not be willing to help you either. But being angry at Apple is pointless. You shouldn't have purchased a used phone unless you knew it could be used. The police shouldn't have sold you a phone which couldn't be used either.

Apple won't give you the original receipt. You weren't the original buyer. And Apple will NOT contact the original owner either. Apple doesn't EVER get involved in lost or stolen devices. And honestly, if your phone was stolen and someone contacted you about it, WHY would you give them the credentials to use your stolen device?

Yes, you bought the device. But a receipt doesn't actually prove legal ownership, especially if the device was stolen, even if you bought it at a police auction.

Again, take the receipt and the phone with you to Apple. But don't be surprised if Apple isn't willing to unlock the phone.

Apple’s strategic theft deterrence strategy is to make stolen devices worthless.

By purchasing a “gray market” phone - which given it’s source likely WAS stolen - you’ve become caught-up in the global war on device theft.

The “additional cost” of purchasing from an authorized reseller buys one the “safety net” of support.

When a reseller declares “all sales final” … caveat emptor.

LOL........You just keep trying. But, knowing where it was bought and them actually giving you, who is NOT the original buyer the copy of the original receipt is going to be quite the challenge. But good on you for forging ahead. If Apple gives you, not the original buyer the receipt, they will have violated everything Apple stands for in protecting the original buyers rights and that would be very disappointing of them to do.

Your user name, btw., couldn't be further from the truth. Apple does care about the privacy of their customers, more than any company on the planet.

You missed the point completely. I suggested earlier you take the phone and the receipt from the police auction to Apple and ask if they would be willing to help you. I DON'T have an issue with them unlocking the phone for you, legitimately.

What I have an issue with is Apple giving you the original receipt for a phone you did not buy originally. That would violate Apple policy on many levels. And when Apple said they would be willing to unlock the phone with original proof of purchase that did not mean they would be willing to provide that to you. Apple would tell even the original owner of a device the same thing. Only in your case, you are NOT the original owner.

So, it's not a matter of me winning or you winning. There is no contest here. There is what is right and follows a consistent policy, which Apple has maintained since well, forever.

Unfortunately it's an auction website and all sales are final. I haven't gone ibto the store but so far I've had a horrible experience with Apple in store and online. It got so bad I had to file a complaint at the better business bureau until it finally got resolved and that took almost 2 month and that was a way easier issue. It just looks like I have to eat the cost of the device. Ty for replying and trying to help that was very kind of you.

Well the auction company sold it as is but I'm frustrated because I have the receipt showing I legally purchased it from a police auction website, sent them picture of the receipt showing the imei, sent them pictures of the auction with the imei, sent them the link to auction so they can see its a legit website and they said they couldn't unlock it. So even the people at Apple can see I bought it legitimately they won't unlock it because I didn't buy it from the store. They said if I can get the original receipt they can and I asked where it was purchased so I can get it and they couldn't tell me, I asked what state in was purchased and they couldn't tell me and I asked what carrier and they couldn't tell me.

I dont understand how this was helpful... can you please explain how this helps?

My thinking was well hopefully the people at Apple will see that I've been pretty loyal since I've had an iPhone since the 5, because of the pandemic I was trying to save some money and I personally did not steal it but you are right I made a mistake and I'm paying the price for it. At the end of this I'm sure I'll just have to recycle it and call it a loss but until then I'm just trying other avenues to get this resolved. Someone has given me a path to try so I will try that. I've learned my lesson and will never buy a used iPhone again but this is the first time buying a used phone and didn't know it would be this much of an issue. If this message was for me to understand I've made a mistake then know that I have learned it, If you have a path for me to take to get this resolved I would love to hear it if not thanks for your time

Again they are the ones who said they will unlock it if I had the original receipt so if they tell me what store I would contact that apple store and try to get the original receipt. If this phone was stolen then they should contact them so the owner and I could maybe work out a deal so they can get there phone back or if they already did an insurance claim I could pay the deductible for them to unlock it, I don't know but I'm not going to give up because you use all caps. I understand apple will not help me I'm just trying to exhaust all my options before I give up and recycle it and call it a loss. If you have something that I can try I'll be more then happy to listen but if not it's already cost me time and money so I don't need you to keep telling me I made a mistake I already know that.

Ok negative Nancy I found out it was bought at a metro and I have the date of purchase. Now I'm gonna see if metro will be willing to help where Apple was not but here I'll reply for you

"METRO WILL NOT give you the proof of purchase. METRO WILL NOT help you. Just give up on your hopes and dreams and when people tell you it's impossible then give up because that's what people do now."

I'm sorry sir but if it's ok with you I'm just gonna keep trying because well it's only going to take my time. Now I don't know why it's so important I quit my quest to use my iphone but I hope in the future when you need help I hope you get someone like me who will look for solutions and not reasons why I can't help. I hope whatever you are going through gets better. Good luck
