System Administrator

I got a dropdown on my Mac Mini from EPSON asking for a "System Administrator" and a PW for my Mac Mini, before it would allow software for my new printer, and the printer, to function. As the owner of this home computer it's not part of any system, just a fine computer (2014 Mini: OS 10.13.6) and an as yet to be operating printer. So, who is the administrator and how is that name or whatever entered (does it matter?), AND what is this password drawn from?

Mac mini, macOS 10.13

Hello, 2689_9862.

The "System Administrator" is typically you, being the owner and main user. The User name is usually found at the top-right corner of the screen once logged in. The password requested will be the password that you use to login when the machine is first booted or restarted.

Is your Mac mini configured to automatically login at restart and take you directly to the desktop without your intervention? If so, it may not (and shouldn't) be logging in to an Admin User account. You may need to log in as another (Admin) user. At the very least, the EPSON installer is requesting permission from an Admin account to install the printer software.

Click (Apple menu) > System Preferences > Users & Groups to verify that your User account has Admin privileges and to enter or change the login password for the account if need be.
