Hi-Res Lossless music stops playing when the screen locks.

I downloaded some Hi-Res Lossless (24bit/192kHz) music from Apple Music and the audio will stop playing whenever my screen auto locks. For example, the album A Rush of Blood to the Head by Coldplay will exhibit this behavior.

This behavior does not occur with downloads that are less than 24bit/192khz. For example, the album Abbey Road (2019 Mix) by the Beatles will play just fine when the screen locks and the downloaded tracks from this album are 24bit/96kHz.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

I suspect the problem occurs not only for 192 kHz but for all files with sampling rate > 96 kHz (strictly greater than).

I have for example the same problem with this album which is at 176.4 kHz:

I have this issue as well. Not all 24/192 behave like this, which is weird as well.

for example: Hotel California (Eagles) will stop playing but not the latest album by Japanese Breakfast.

I’ve also noticed that the audio stops but that the song still run in the background. Like audio is muted. It doesn’t pause.

I use a pair of Audeze iSine with a built in DAC.

I have exactly the same problem.

I have tested on many albums at different sampling rates, and it happens only and systematically on 192 kHz albums.

It happens on both my iPhone 11 pro max and my iPad pro 12.9” 4th generation.

it happens both when using iPhone internal speakers and headphones with the lightning to jack dongle.

I also removed all albums, reset my iPhone completely and redownloaded the albums, the problem persists (on a virgin iphone with latest iOs 14.6).

I spent several days listening to music without any problems (on Apple Music)… one day I realized just 2 songs had this issue, because they were Hi Ress Lossless files. The only thing I could do to play this files, without them pausing when locking my iphone (11 pro max), was to delete and re download the hi res songs, this works for about 5 or 10 mins and then it locks again… the new hi res option is pretty awesome for the audio enthusiasts. They will fix it, I’m pretty sure Apple will take some weeks to solve this, let’s be patient.

Having the same problem— however— not with high bit/hi-res sample rates. (I don’t have any music in that format)

I’ve narrowed the tracks on my device with this problem down to AIFF and WAV filetypes (both at 44.1k)

There are others on Apple community with this issue. Again, I suspect this to be more of a bug with the file types (not being m4a or mp3) as opposed to just sampling rate.

either way Apple needs to figure this out and fix this. Tracks from cds/ exports from Logic, etc are all affected by this.
