Buying a phone with no carrier

Yes I need to know if I purchased the Apple iPhone 12 Max pro with no carrier and I use a prepaid sim that I already have with AT&t will this phone work is it unlocked I do not want a carrier I do not want a monthly bill please let me know thank you
