iPhone keeps downloading tv series

Recently my iPhone has repeatedly started spontaneously starting to downloading entire series of TV shows that I have bought, even though I only watch them on my Apple TV. It's got so bad that it's knocked 3% off my battery total and the phone isn't even a year old.

I've tried all solutions I can find, but after a few days it reoccurs without me having made any further downloads of iTunes to my phone.

Anyone know a way of telling iTunes to only download things I've actually requested?

I agree that should have been the case, this occurred to me also, but changing that setting had no effect (It was already in the off position). I persevered with the help of 3 different Apple support staff and after asking me to be patient the third tested a hunch that it had some link to a previous “fix” from a totally different issue and I’m pleased to say it worked when they tested this theory. I’ve now had several days with without any reoccurrence, I’m pleased to say. 🤓👍🏻
