Windows 10 Bootcamp on iMac 27 2017 Retina 5k No Sound

All of the topics regarding the no sound issue with bootcamp drivers on certain iMacs have had the replies turned off. I did two fresh installations of Windows 10 using Microsoft's latest iso (6/2021) and the windows support drivers did not install the correct audio driver.

If it helps someone, here are the steps which took me the better part of 2 hours to piece together. On the windows side, run Apple Software Update to get the latest drivers. Once this is complete, manually browse to the bootcamp support drivers located in windows support\$WinPEDrivers$\Cirrus. Find the file named "cs4208_38" right click and select install.

This is the only way I could get Win 10 to let go of the default audio drivers and install the older ones. Every other way using device manager, update driver failed. Even using command line.

Hope this helps someone. When complete it should look like the attached pic.

The original Bootcamp drivers package ...

		<ProductManufacturer>Apple Inc.</ProductManufacturer>
		<ProductVersion>6.1.7866</ProductVersion>
		<ProductCode>{FCFFE6B6-BAE8-490E-88D0-097A9DA1C43D}</ProductCode>

in $WinPEDriver$ also contains the same driver. The driver should be installed by Windows installer as a Preboot step.

If the Windows installer (from 6/2021) is ignoring $WinPEDriver$, it may be an issue with the installer. Normally, Apple Software Update will list what it will download. See How to use Apple Software Update for Windows - Apple Support.

Glad that you have it working using your method.
