MacOS Monterey Update Causes Bootcamp Soundcard Driver to Fail

After upgrading to the latest MacOS Monterey, there is no sound in Windows.

Have been using Windows thru Bootcamp without problems until recent update of MacOS to Monterey.

After update, there is no sound in Windows though it works perfectly in MacOS. When booting into Windows from MacOS (start iMac in MacOS then restart and boot into Windows) sound works. However, when iMac is turned off and restarted directly into Windows, there is no sound.

After this issue, tried reinstalling Windows by removing bootcamp partition and reinstalling Windows, but did not solve issue.

To summarize,

    • Sound in Mac but not in Windows
    • Sound in Windows only after first boot from MacOS
    • Using latest MacOS and bootcamp drivers
    • Also installed latest drivers thru Apple Software Update in Windows
    • Also tried reinstalling Windows Support from MacOS bootcamp utility
    • Reinstalled bootcamp partition and Windows but did not solve issue

Any pointers would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

  • Turn off and restart into Windows
  • Run Device Manger
  • Update the sound driver (e.g., CS8409) that doesn't work by clicking "Update Driver"
  • Clicking "Update Driver"
  • Click "Browse my computer for drivers"
  • Click "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer"
  • Unclick "Show compatible hardware"
  • Scroll down and select "Cirus Logic, Inc." + "Cirrus Logic CS8409 (AB16)"
  • Done

Thank you for your reply. I have tried your solution but have yet to solve the issue.

I followed your instructions and with the exception of a minor change, there is still no sound in Windows when the computer is started directly into Windows.

The minor change is that the sound icon that had a red x mark (to note that there was no sound card installed) has now disappeared. So without first testing for sound, there seems to be no issues.

Also, I would like to point out that the name of the sound driver was different when there is sound vs when there is no sound. When there is sound, (when started into Windows by first starting Mac and then rebooting into Windows) the sound driver in Device Manager showed CS8409(AB16) whereas when there was no sound, it just showed CS8409 without AB16.

well i had the same audio problem and i noticed that when the Monterey update finished and i had to restart the computer, the fase of restarting passed automatically to windows 10 resulting the sound missing!

i restart again MacOs and then i shut down the PC.

when i turned it again on windows 10...... everything was working correct.

wish you the best!!!
