Phots won’t delete

I have been trying to delete photos in my phone but they keep reappearing. iCloud is not turned on and never has been, I have empties the recently deleted album. When I click on the photo, the option to delete rem isn’t there, all that shows up is the upload button at the centre bottom of the screen. This is maddening. There are photos of my ex on there, my dead father and I need them to not be there anymore. Does anyone know how to get rid of them once and for all?

Hello ELSolo123,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We are happy to help you!

We understand you are having trouble with deleting photos from you iPhone.

Even though iCloud photos are not turned on, it is possible that you may still have your photos linked through other devices that you are signed into with your AppleID.

We have provided you with a few different articles to assist with the issue at hand:

Delete photos on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

"If you add photos to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch by connecting your device to your computer, you can't delete them directly from your device in the Photos app. If you see the gray Trash button  when you try to delete a photo from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you might need to stop syncing photos from your computer. Learn how to stop syncing photos from your computer."

Sync your photos manually using the Finder

"Turn off Finder syncing

If you don't want the synced photos on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch anymore, turn off syncing in the Finder and they'll be removed from your device. You can turn off syncing for some of your photo albums or all of them at once.

Stop syncing some albums

  1. Open a Finder window and connect your device to your computer using a USB cable.
  2. Your device appears in the sidebar of the Finder window. Click the device to select it.
  3. If prompted, trust your device.
  4. Click the Photos tab below your device's information.
  5. Choose "Selected albums" and deselect the albums or collections that you want to stop syncing.
  6. Click Apply.

Stop syncing all photos
