No sound using external speakers

Hi...hope someone can help. I have no issues with the sound coming out of the iPad. I have sound when I connect headphones, but when I connect the cable for my external speakers (https://www.logitech.com/en-au/products/speakers/z333-speaker-system-subwoofer.980-001204.html), there is no sound. I can't even get sound if connecting via Bluetooth.

I do Zoom workouts at home, so obviously need sound! This issue only started in the last two or so weeks. Had no issues whatsoever prior to that.

Any suggestions? Whilst my iPad is old (Air 2, purchased mid 2017), it's still working, albeit a bit slow at times but I don't have the funds to upgrade to a new model at this stage.

Hello Pikapolonica,

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. We understand that when connecting a third-party speaker to your iPad, there is no sound. We'll help get this resolved.

Since this is happening with both the wired and wireless connection with the speaker, are you able to test the issue by using the speaker with another iOS device? Testing with another device can help isolate the issue to the speaker.

As for the Bluetooth connection, do the speakers appear to be paired at all when you hear no sound? If not, try these steps:

If you can't connect a Bluetooth accessory to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

From there, we also suggest making sure the volume on your iPad is turned up, and testing the issue with another known-good cable between your iPad and speakers.

We hope this information is useful. Kind regards.

Pikapolonica,

Thanks for getting back to us after trying each of those steps. From our understanding, you can hear sound when your iPhone and Android phone are connected to your third-party speakers both with the cable and via Bluetooth.

Next, is your iPad fully updated to iPadOS 14.6? If an update is available, we suggest backing up to a computer or to iCloud, then updating to further test the issue. Updating might re-establish the iPad software compatibility with your speakers.

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

From there, try using your iPad with another set of speakers, and take any remaining steps here:

If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker

If this concern still isn't resolved, we recommend that you contact Apple Support directly. Depending on your region, you may be able to reach them here:

Done all of the above and still an issue. Used the cable to the iPhone, worked. Used bluetooth connection to iPhone, no issue. Did the same using an Android phone, no issue.

Cable works because you can "hear it" when it plugs in, if that makes sense (like when testing a microphone by tapping it).

iPad does pair with the speakers via Bluetooth (shows as connected) but still no sound.
