No password error in iOS mail app

Running iOS 14.4.2 on iPad Air 2. Suddenly get "Cannot Get Mail. No password password provided" error in Mail app. Went to Mail account settings and reentered password for Yahoo imap incoming mail server, but still says "no password" error in Mail app. Try restarting but no good. Able to check mail account in web browser but not in Mail. :-(

System worked earlier in day, and no setting were changed, but suddenly "no password"

First, if you are still running iPadOS 14.4.2 as indicated, you should update to the most recent version - iPadOS 14.6. This (and intervening) updates include essential security fixes.


As for difficulties with your email, in common with many other Mail providers (such as AOL, Gmail, Microsoft and others), Yahoo now use App Specific Passwords to secure access to IMAP or POP3 mailboxes.


The Mail App on each of your devices, such as your iPad, requires a unique password to be generated from within the Yahoo account. This App password intentionally differs from your Yahoo account password - and can only be used to access your Yahoo mail.
