I'm updating my (new to me) iPod Touch, through iTunes. Everything seems to go well until iTunes says "waiting for iPod" and it gets hung up at this step. The screen on the iPod shows the Apple. But nothing else happens. I'm not sure what to do next.

Try updating directly on the iPod (Settings>General>Software Update)
Thanks for your response! I should've have added the detail that I cannot get into the software of the iPod Touch. The screen shows the apple symbol and that's all. It's non-responsive.
