Mac Mail App in OS 11.4 and Comcast incompatibility

All of the sudden I cannot get Mail in OS 11.4 to connect to my Comcast mail server. I am prompted over and over to enter my password, and when I do, a message appears saying "that account already exists."

I just deleted the Comcast mail account and tried to add it back, and I get the same message that that mail account already exists.

At other times it will also tell me that I can have only one IMAP mail account.

I can log into my Comcast email via Safari without any issues. And I can use my iPhone with Comcast email servers no problem.

This is becoming tiring. I have had only Macs since 1987. The internet has made things a bit more complex, but unilateral changes in programming protocols by either Comcast or Apple are bound to cause problems.

Anyone have a solution or do I just drop the Mac Mail application and find another?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.12

Many eMail providers now require a separate App Password, without notifying users…

I can't remember who Comcast uses for eMail, but...

Then you may need Ways to securely access AOL Mail…

https://help.aol.com/articles/allow-apps-that-use-less-secure-sign-in

Or it may just need an App Password...

Yahoo has gone to this too...

Yahoo App password…

Generate and manage third-party app passwords

Some older, third-party email apps (that do not use our Yahoo branded sign in page) require you to enter a single password for login credentials. To access your Yahoo Mail account on these apps, you'll need to generate and use an app password. An app password is a long, randomly generated code that gives a non-Yahoo app permission to access your Yahoo account. You’ll only need to provide this code once to sign in to your third-party email app.

Thanks for your response.

I notice I managed to post contradictory information when selecting the OS I am using. I am using Big Sur - OS 11.4. I will ask Comcast about the "app password" but my iPhone (running the latest iOS version) has no such issues.

I also recently had my MacBook Pro decide it didn't like my password for logging into the computer itself (not the Apple ID password but the one you use when the fingerprint method has timed out). This kind of stuff used to be what you heard from Windows users.

I will hate having to shift to Outlook.

I will let anyone interested know what Comcast has to say.
