When will multiple external monitor support come to Macs with M1 chips?

I'm getting a MacBook Air soon and I haven't found anything to indicate an os update introduced multiple external monitor support. I have a couple of monitors I really enjoy plugged into a Caldigit TS3 dock. I'm just hoping I don't have to get a bigger monitor or use just one for what's supposed to be my personal laptop.

MacBook Air (2020 or later)

It is a hardware issue not an OS issue. The M1 Mac Mini supports two external monitors now.

From: Mac mini - Technical Specifications - Apple

"Simultaneously supports up to two displays:

One display with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz connected

via Thunderbolt and one display with up to 4K resolution at 60Hz

connected via HDMI 2.0"

The MacBook Pro/Air M1 Macs support one external display.
