Large Time Machine backups with Relatively Little Computer Use.

If I do very basic things on my M1 Mac Mini and only turn the back up drive (4TB G-Drive) on every couple days, is it normal to have gigabytes of data to back up in Time Machine? It just seems to be a lot of backing up for computer use that doesn't involve saving photos, video or music.

Mac mini, macOS 11.4

You need to let Time Machine backup hourly or at least more than once or twice per day.

If you feel that you do not want or need the hourly Time Machine backups?

Then maybe you should be using something like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper instead.
