I always update my iPhone when there is a new software update. Now I get a message from google maps that "developer of this app needs to update it to work with this version of iOS" so I can's use it.

You are using an old version of Google maps that they quit supporting some time ago. You need to install the newer version from the app store.

The App Store just shows the same version of google maps, and says Open. If you click that you get the same message. Any more bright ideas? Way to go Apple.
