sync

I want to sync my phone with my macbook pro. The iPhone does not appear in the Finder. So, I went to Finder - Preferences - General - Sidebar - Locations. The Location says CDs, DVDs, iPods. The procedure says it should say CDs, DVDs, IOS devices. I think this is why it won't sync, but I don't know how to get the Location to say CDs, DVDs, IOS devices.
