Buzzing Noise when sharing iPad screen (wired) on Zoom

Help! My MacBook Pro has just begun making an intermittent buzzing noise when I am sharing my iPad screen (wired connection) when using Zoom. I thought this might be happening due to MacBook overheating, but it occurred even when it is cool to the touch. The issue doesn't happen when I share my iPad screen on my Mac wirelessly. I've restarted both devices to no avail. Thank you in advance for responding.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.12

Hi there amwelker,

Thanks for joining us in Apple Support Communities! We understand you're hearing a buzzing sound when connecting your iPad to your MacBook via a wired connection and sharing your iPad screen in the third-party app, Zoom. We're glad you're here, and we'd like to learn more to see how we can help.

To begin, have you tried connecting your iPad to your MacBook with a different cable to see if that makes a difference? Are you using an Apple cable to connect your iPad to your MacBook? Learn how to tell here:

Identify counterfeit or uncertified Lightning connector accessories

Next, does this happen in any other apps on your Mac? Although the title of the support article below doesn't match the exact issue you're experiencing, try working through the suggested steps to see if they help:

If an app on your Mac stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open

Also, if the issue persists, try resetting the SMC and NVRAM on your MacBook:

Let us know how it goes.

Take care.

I am having the same issue, and it is definitely caused by the new iPad. I had been using an older iPad Pro and sharing to Zoom via a Lightening cable for more than a year, without any issue. Today I upgraded the iPad to a new USB-C iPad Pro, and the buzzing when screen sharing in zoom started. All other hardware - except for the iPad and the type of connecting cable - are the same.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Apple support at the Genius bar indicated that they are aware of the buzzing issue with newer iPads when sharing a screen via wired connection on Zoom. Hopefully, they will address this issue in the next ios update. Fingers crossed! It's been a huge inconvenience for me professionally not to be able to share my iPad on my MacBook during Zoom.

I’m using iPad Air 4th gen (OS 14.7.1) and an older MacBook (2014) (OS 11.5.1). I have worked with the engineering team at Zoom but none of the fixes we tried solved the issue. They reported that this is a known problem to the Apple engineering team. Interestingly, when I tried using an older second gen iPad I didn’t have any problems, which makes me think that this an issue with newer iPad models. I have shared my screen (wired connection) on my Mac when on Zoom for the entire last school year when working with students remotely (I’m a speech-language pathologist) and never had an issue until this Summer. I hope the next OS update fixes the problem.

What IPad and MacBook Pro were you using? What version of operating system? I am using my 2021 MacBook pro 13 inch with M1 processor. It was fine with my sixth gen iPad but I just got this noise when I connected my new iPad Air 4th gen 2021. I am updating the MacBook Pro to OS 11.5.1 to see if that takes care if the problem. My iPad Air is running 14.7.

the suggestions in the previous reply don’t apply to my processor.
