How do I recover from the trash after I accidentally cleared it out?

Um, you don't. 'Sitting in the Trash' IS your safety net. Once you 'Empty Trash' those items are Gone.
Your recourse is to restore thane items form your Trusted Backup. ¿What is the date of your most recent backup?
