Dolby vision on Apple TV 4K blacking out

Ive had my AppleTV 4K since it’s release. Have set to 4K hdr, with match content. Ive watched countless Dolby vision programs without issue. When I installed the appleTV I also installed a certified high speed hdmi cable. Tonight (June 17, 2021) I went to watch a Dolby vision program and It goes to switch into Dolby vision and it keeps kicking in and out, black screen, then back. What changed? Watching the same content direct from the tv plays Dolby vision without issue. Did Apple TV update today?

This is not the ATV 4K nor is it related to cables, etc.

The issue is with the LG C9 firmware. Around the time your problem started LG updated the firmware to version 05.10.04. Any DV capable device connected through an AVR, such as your Marantz, and then to the LG experiences the problem. I have the same exact issue.

LG is well aware of the problem and is testing/perhaps rolling out a fix already. It MAY be 05.10.15. Best bet is to wait for the update and use HDR as you are doing. I'm doing the same.

This is the LG link (assuming you are in the US) where you can see what the current firmware is. You might want to consider turning off automatic updates. I wish I has not turned mine back on.

There is also discussion that your AVR might require an update. Oddly enough my Denon got an update a day or two after the initial occurrence. They didn't say what it was for. You may want to check for AVR updates.

Hope this helps. It's complex and difficult to tell what is creating the issue. I was lucky - the LG wanted to do an update - I let it - and immediately after I played a show that was in DV and got the blanking/blacking.

Interesting. I stand corrected. Thanks. Since you don't mention any soundbar or receiver in between I gather the ATV4K and LG are directly connected? In any case, best of luck with the new cables.

FWIW, I also see my LG's "no signal" screen periodically shortly after waking the system with the Apple Remote... but it lingers until I click the remote again and the ATV4K display returns and stays on (so I've never worried about it). I don't see any blanking out at the beginning of a show, but then I'm set to 4K HDR with Match Content off (my cheaper 2020 LG doesn't do Dolby Vision -- hence my ignorant suggestion about color calibration :-).

No worries, I should have been more specific. I have an LG Soundbar connected to the eACR HDMI 3, and the ATV4K connected directly to the TV via HDMI4 (the other 2.1 port) and all 3 turn on with the ATV remote. It’s only annoying because the Home Screen is loaded with the Dolby Vision pop up showing as well , and then after 3-5 seconds it goes black -> no signal-> Home Screen reappears with Dolby vision again.

I just upgraded to the newest apple 4k and lg b1 oled. I’m seeing both the weird bottom half stuff and the sudden black screen. I reached out to lg for help but it was mainly screen retention stuff.

Anyone know what to do?

I am on LG C8 , and this is making me so mad. I have the same issue as above. I am on version 05.30.15 on the TV. Happens on different apps, like Netflix, Prime

Unlikely, as I see the problem in the C1, with the latest firmware! Are we giving up anything by switching to HDR from Dolby Vision the AppleTV?

Even with TVOS 15.1, the problem persists. I don't think it's a cable issue -- unless the test built into the AppleTV 4K isn't rigorous enough.

Also want to reply I have been able to view content in 4k Dolby vision 60 hertz, and 4k HDR 60 hertz seamlessly on several different apps...with Dolby atmos as well.

I was hoping that the recent update would fix the Apple/Dolby Vision/Sony X85J issue… nope…. No luck…. I have Apple recommended cables, I have also tried two other brands 8K certified… no luck :(

Same this is happening to me on an LG TV. Alll cables are 2.1 Ultra High Speed (checked using the HDMI app). Only happens on startup, and then again when the first Dolby vision content is starting.
