I just purchased an iPhone 12. I cannot airdrop a photo to my own MacBook air, sitting right by me. I get the error message: No people found - There is no one nearby to share with

Do you have Airdrop on your iPhone set to Contacts or Everyone? Do you have Bluetooth turned on (both devices) and you are using the same Apple ID on the same network on each device?
I do have the same apple id on both devices and the same network. should i have it set to contacts or everyone?
Set it to everyone and try it.
And what is the model of you MBA and what OS is it running?
big sur - 11.4
13 inch - early 2015
and yes i tried with "everyone"
