Time Machine makes hourly backups, even during sleep

Is that normal behaviour? If I am not using the computer what is the need for a back up? I noticed that my external HDD drive is pretty much in constant use and my MacBook air hardly ever sleeps :D

Time Machine taking longer than usual Since upgrading to Monterey, my Time Machine has been taking longer than usual to back up. Today it has been backing up since 6:30am (9.5 hours). Anyone have any solutions?

Time Machine deleted all my backups randomly...?? I just logged into my computer and got a notification that I hadn't backed up in 1333 days. However, that's impossible because my Time Machine is set to automatic and it backs up daily, every time I'm on my mac. I even hear the noise of the Time Machine as it goes off every date backing up. What happened????

TM does hourly backups but may not actually do much backing up unless something as changed. It has a routine that it follows no matter what. Not to worry.
