I have turned off most swipe gestures but still have the issue that when I move the cursor quickly (in a single swipe action) the desktop constantly appears no matter what app or program I am using. In system preferences, I don't see an option to turn this off.
Using Big Sur 11.2.3 on a new mac air. If anyone knows of a solution it would be much appreciated, thanks
Definitely agree - there is something in User Account loading that interferes with things.
Suggest downloading the Application Etrecheck directly from a Trusted Developer and well Respected ASC Contributor. The application is free or paid from added features. Run the application with Full Disc Access ( Security & Privacy - Full Disc Access ). It will take a Snap Shot - both the hardware and software. The Report will Not Reveal Any Personal Information. Post back the Full Report - copy and paste - using the Additional Text Icon ( 3rd Icon to last )
We can have a look at the report for possible issues and may have possible suggestions to resolve the issues.
Any Third Party Applications that will interfere with the normal operation of the OS, alter, modify, remove or delete or attempt to do so is an invitation for disaster and may require a Reinstallation of the OS.
When you say the desktop appears, you mean as when the existing windows move out of the way to the edges of the screen?
What are the settings in System Preferences->Mission Control, specifically for "Show Desktop"?

Thank you Luis and P. Philips for your help, it turns out it was something actually very simple but that I had never used before, a setup for Hot Corners, a feature I was unaware of but relieved to now have turned off.

Does it happen in Safe Mode? Does it happen in a different user account?
On Apple Silicon macs, the startup options work differently. Press AND HOLD the power button until you see a screen with options.
Question - the desktop as in the Multi Coloured Startup Desktop image ? Or does one mean the Launchpad Desktop showing all the available installed applications.?
As an aside to your issue - the version of Big Sur 11.2.3 being used is out-dated. There is a Big Sur 11.4 available and should be updated for bug fixes and Security reasons.
I just tried several times to start in safe mode, holding down shift doesn't work as using Apple silicon (not intel) and I don't have or cannot see an option to select the startup disk. I only have one user account.
Thanks for your help, in safe mode there is no issue, however logging back into my user account in normal mode the issue is still unresolved, every time I make a swipe up action on the trackpad the pages slide out of sight and the desktop appears, to get back to the program I have to click the top bar.
It is super annoying as a simple upwards movement on the trackpad causes it.
In system preferences, I have tried unclicking ALL trackpad options but the problem persists. Any other suggestions are much appreciated.
I am not familiar with "Shift", but from a quick search it is a sort of manager of apps. I wonder if it modifies some input gestures.
Does the problem happen when Shift is not running? Does it have some preferences setting that may affect the present situation?

Just updated to 11.4 still have the issue with the desktop appearing with one finger swipe.
