Phone Connectivity in Different Cities

My dad is an airline pilot which means he travels frequently to other cities. When he lands, his phone has issues connecting to the T-Mobile network in the city. It’s an iPhone 12 mini with a brand new SIM card. The issue presents itself and the only thing that seems to fix it is a soft reset. Are there other alternatives to fix the problem or could this be a hardware issue within the phone itself? My 12 mini does not have the same issue in the instances that I’ve traveled, albeit not as often as he does.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Turn on Airplane Mode for about 30 seconds, then turn it off. This is most likely to happen if he doesn’t enable Airplane Mode while in the air.
