add to home screen adding to second screen

ipad, ios14.5.1

When, from Safari, I add a bookmark to the home screen it shows up on the second screen even though there is plenty of space on the home screen. What's up?

I’m at some loss to understand the comments being made by our esteemed Community Specialists…

Whilst I cannot provide an explanation for Apple’s decision - Apps, Shortcuts or Bookmarks will not be added to the first Home Screen. Whilst they can be manually moved, it is a function of iPadOS that these are added to the second Home Screen where space is available, or later Home Screens if all space is occupied.

Hello easily_confused,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities!

We see that your Safari bookmarks are added to the second home screen on your iPad instead of the first.

We’d be happy to help you!

You can follow the steps in Move and organize apps on iPad and Bookmark favorite webpages in Safari on iPad to see if that helps with the location.

Take care.
