Apple Watch Series 3

I cannot get my Series 3 apple watch to pair with my I phone anymore because the watch cannot update the latest IOS software for the watch. I do not want to buy a new watch - it was working just fine for what I needed. Can the watch go back to the original software? And then I can pair it again with my Iphone? I haven't been able to get any assistance - everybody just keeps telling me to buy a series 6 watch but I shouldn't have to because the series 3 was working just fine until it was supposed to be updated. Ugh!!!

Yes that is a known issue, when tying to update the back level watchOS 6 version with an iPhone that is now running the current iOS 14. Those two are apparently not compatible for this update to go through.

There is no way to go back to previous versions. Two possibilities exist:

Find an old iPhone with iOS12 or older on it and complete the pairing with that first.
Contact Apple Support or visit an Apple store and ask if they can run this update for you.
