Hard reset for an 8th generation iPad.

I got an iPad from work. They gave me instructions on how to rest it, however the erase all content isn't responding when I try to click on it. I cannot connect my device to a computer is there a hard reset?

First, terminology…. “Hard Reset” is not a term found within Apple’s iPad Lexicon. A malfunctioning iPad can be force-restarted, or restored.

Next, iPad and iPhone do not have any kind of physical external “reset” button. If a forced-restart is unsuccessful, a Mac or PC computer must be used to restore the device.

If your iPad is centrally managed by your employer, you will very likely need the assistance of the System Administrator that manages the iPad. In managed environments, it is usual for applied restrictions to limit connections to computer - or to restore or reset the device.

Assuming that an installed MDM profile is not preventing you from recovering the iPad, if the iPad isn’t responding, do one of the following:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

If iPad still doesn’t turn on, or if it gets stuck during start up, see the Apple Support article If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen - Apple Support. Or if your iPad isn’t working correctly after you restart it, see the iPad Support website.
