No menu button on Apple TV remote

Ok, I have a brand new Apple TV and it’s proving to be very frustrating in some respects. Right now the problem is that I set the Accessibility Shortcut for “Closed Captions “, and it tells me to get to Accessibility options, press Menu three times. However, there is NO Menu button either labeled on the silver remote or called out in the user guide. I’ve tried pressing other buttons three times and that doesn’t work.

Have I just forgotten how to read English, or is there a hidden button somewhere?

The Menu button has been renamed Back (<) button in the latest model Siri Remote, but it functions the same.

The triple-click has to be somewhat speedy, to be seen as a single signal.

It doesn't seem to work a lot of the time. It's more reliable to use Siri to toggle on and off, but that has its own problems. Such as asking to "Turn on the closed captions" and getting response that "Subtitles are already on". This doesn't make much sense as closed captions and subtitles are two different things. Also, the Auto setting in the pull-down Accessibility Menu seems to do nothing except disable CC, even in programs that have CC. So far I've found no documentation that clears any of this up. I had expected the Closed Captions options in Settings to be a universal toggle, but it does to seem to be.
