audio message not recording

I figured it out! You have to ensure the “sound recognition” feature is turned off. When I did the newest IOS update it automatically turned it on which uses the microphone to listen for sounds. Turn that off. Hopefully that helps!

That fixed it for me - I have two ipads and two iphones and the setting was enabled on my private iphone, which didn't allow recording of messages any more. thanks so much! disabling sound recognition fixed it. it's a shame though as it's a nice little feature even if your hearing works fine.

I figured out the solution. Sound recognition needs to be turned off otherwise the microphone won’t record voice notes within iMessage. Your welcome.

Finally got it fixed. I updated the iOS. Then I switched my send/receive to my phone number instead of my email!

Which app is this happening with?

Have you tested with other audio recording apps? Such as the Voice Memos app? Use the Voice Memos app

Let's check for updates on your device: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Additionally, try using the audio message feature while on a different network.

I started having this problem as soon as I accepted the latest update 14.7.1 and I cannot record anything in messages while my microphone is fine

I have an iPhone 8 and am experiencing the exact same issue. My software is up to date.

My mic works fine with Voice Memos and with text dictation, and I’ve restarted my phone. But when I hold or press the messages audio recording icon, the recording button turns on and I see 0:00, but I speak and nothing gets recorded and the 0:00 never progresses to 0:01.

I can’t attach a video here, but I did a 20-second screen recording to show how nothing gets recorded when I’m speaking. Here’s a screenshot showing the view that just stays even when I’m speaking.

This was so helpful to me. I hope apple fixes this so we can have sound recognition on and record audio messages on iMessage at the same time

this was the most helpful solution! I tried it and it worked!!! I was on the verge of tears and skimmed through five articles. I was ready to just give up or replace my phone. So thank you! This solution should be at the top of the forum.

I’ve had the same issues for months. Apple Support had me reset my phone to no avail. I’ve spent an hour on several occasions with support and still can’t send audio messages.

Same issue. I tried contacting Apple Support and they essentially had no answers. Told me to update my phone which I did and still not working. I have an iPhone 12 pro
