Can't fast forward or fast rewind

I have an Apple TV 4K (1st generation, running the latest TVOS software) with a strange problem, in that I am unable to fast forward or rewind while watching a show (Yes, I know that with the old remote, you have to stop the streaming and use the touchpad to move the cursor back as far as you want.). After using the device for a few weeks, whenever I try to change my "position" in a show, the stream will revert back to the beginning of the show. When I try to move my position back to where I was, the display that shows where I am in the stream will show the right position, but will then revert back to 0:00:00. In the past, I was able to "fix" the Apple TV by doing a restart, but that no longer works. Any ideas of how I can fix this?


In a related problem, the TV software will often forget where I am in a program, and bring me back to the beginning of the program. This happens when we stop a program in the middle, and want to resume it the next day.

Restarting the Apple TV was a good step. Just to verify, you are using the original remote and didn't upgrade to the newest model remote?


Have you tried these steps: If your Apple TV remote isn't working?


Does this happen in all video apps?


How is it connected? Wi-Fi or Ethernet? Is it possible to try and replicate the issue with both?

To answer your questions:

1) I am using the original remote

2) I'm charging the remote now, but last I checked, it was pretty fully charged. I don't think re-pairing it with the Apple TV will help, since it works fine in all other ways. By the way, I had also tried unplugging the Apple TV for about 30 seconds, which didn't work.

3) I'm not exactly sure if it happens with all Apps. It does happen with Acorn (I've seen it with at least 2 shows), though I access the shows using "Up next" in the TV app. Because I think it may be a problem with Acorn, I have also contacted them, though I haven't heard anything from the yet. For what it is worth, since I have been able to get things to work right by doing a restart on the Apple TV, I am a little bit doubtful that it is an Acorn problem.

4) It's connected by WiFi. There is no convenient way to connect it directly by ethernet.
