Corded speakers crackle every exact minute when Mini on wifi

I use corded speakers with my Mac Mini, but when my Mini is on internet through wifi, the speakers crackle every exact minute. (I've timed it.) However, this doesn't happen when the Mini is connected to the modem through a cord or when the wifi is turned off. Also, when I go in to the wifi control at the top right, the speakers crackle more harshly and if I turn off the wifi and turn it back on, it crackles more frequently (~every 9 seconds). Anyone have an idea what might be causing this? Could it have something to do with the modem searching for wifi signals in the area?

Hi JayMcHue,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! We'd be glad to see how we can help. We understand that you're experiencing issues with your speakers creating crackling noises, it seems you were able to isolate the issue to your Wi-Fi connection.

What you're describing sounds like wireless interference. We suggest trying the following:

"If you're using USB 3 or Thunderbolt 3 devices with your computer, you can limit their potential to interfere with nearby wireless devices:

  • Use a high-quality, shielded USB or Thunderbolt 3 cable with each device.
  • Move your USB 3 or Thunderbolt 3 devices—including any USB hubs—farther away from your wireless devices.
  • Avoid placing USB 3 or Thunderbolt 3 devices on top of your Mac Pro, Mac notebook, or Mac mini.
  • Turn off any USB 3 devices that aren't in use."

Should the issue persist, we suggest seeing if the same thing happens with another set of speakers.

Take care.
