If you set this up as a wired/wireless printer, then it is supported by Apple's built-in AirPrint, without the need for HP drivers or software. It is not supported by AirPrint if connected via USB, and for that, you are entirely dependent upon HP providing Big Sur compatible drivers.
With the printer powered, visit System Preferences > Printers & Scanners panel, and control-click on the printer entry. From the secondary menu, choose Reset printing system… and re-add the device with either AirPrint, or the HP drivers that were dated after Nov 2020 — as appropriate for your connection type. You may need to perform additional scanner configuration when back on the Printers & Scanners panel. With either AirPrint or Big Sur compatible HP drivers, you should be able to detect the scanner using Apple's Image Capture.
If USB, did you install HP Smart to get the correct drivers for you 6458?
