Where’s my saved draft??

I started an email a couple days ago, saved it to draft and then continued it today. I kept saving it periodically because it was long, with photos etc. The last thing I did was I took a photo and inserted it to the email and suddenly the screen froze and went black. I waited and the whole thing came back again though slowly with that thing twirling around that tells you the iPhone is working I guess. I then saved it to draft but when I went

back into it to finish it, only the original that I started a few days ago was there. I have reset & still nothing. I am sooo annoyed & frustrated. By the way, my iOS is right up to date with version 14.6.

If the app you were in closed unexpectedly, there is always the possibility that what you were working on did not save in time which seems is what happened in this situation. If the draft in the Mail app is the same as what you see when you're accessing the web version of the email account, it did not save to the server.

We would suggest checking for any possible recent iOS updates. If you're still having issues with the Mail app closing even after updating your device, contact Apple Support. Here's how to Get Support.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you were working on an email draft which did not save the latest version. We’d like to help.

Are you using the Mail app or a third-party email app?

Were you working on the draft within a third-party mail account? If so, are you able to log into the web version of the email account? Is the draft version there the same as what you see on your device or different?

Here’s what you can do If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open.

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen, follow those suggestions.

Does this happen often with mail you’re working on? Or was this the first occurrence?

I was working on the Mail App that comes with iPhone. I also looked in Shaw webmail & the draft version there is the same as what’s left on my iPhone. As referenced in my question to you, I did what you specified…I reset my iPhone & there was no change. It has happened before where it timed out while saving the draft & the screen has also turned black & froze whilst in the middle of composing or saving a draft. What I have been saving has never been lost until this incident. Can an email draft be too long??? Anyway from what you’ve suggested & my efforts, I’m resigned to the fact that it’s gone for good. I’ve seen comments from others that indicate if the screen turned black & froze you can basically kiss your work goodbye. 😢
