It depends what you are starting with.

if you are starting with a CD, rip it using iTunes or Music.

If you have a folder of audio files (MP3, etc.) drag them to the Automatically Add... folder.

If you have an Apple Music subscription and found an album you like, you can add it to your library as described in here:
